Protect Yourself From Evil Wind Disease

This week in Miami we have been having strong winds
coming from the East and Northeast at 10 to 15 KTS
with gusts of 20 to 25 KTS.  In traditional
Chinese medicine, wind causes considerable
difficulty. It is one of the six external causes
of disease. Wind is a word that is widely and
freely used in Chinese medicine in relation to
health and disease while it has no equivalent
meaning or implication for the Western medical
field. External wind can cause diseases that are
acute, like the common cold, influenza, sinus
infection, skin eruption, sore throat, cough, and
eye disorders.

Now, we are in the season that’s ruled by the
metal element affecting both the lungs and large
intestines. Autumn, which means it’s a windy
season and a time when cold and flu are easy to
catch. According to Chinese Medicine, we are all
most susceptible to catching a wind at the change
of seasons. Here are some tips to help you avoid a
wind attack:

I can remember my friend, Ronny, would always
wear a scarf around his neck in a windy weather.
When I asked him why, he said, to prevent an evil
wind invasion. According to Su Wen, “Wind-evil is
the main factor to induce various diseases, and
has many variations and no regular pattern when it
turns into other diseases. But, in the last
analysis, the diseases are stemmed from the
invasion of wind-evil.” Traditional Chinese
Medicine teaches that external pathogens (bugs)
are carried in the wind and that they enter our
bodies at the back of our necks. We have
acupuncture points that “expel wind” used to treat
a cold. If you cover your neck when going out in
the wind, you can actually help to prevent
catching a cold.
•       During the windy season, we are more prone to
wind disorders. Things are changing in the
environment and for our bodies as well. Our bodies
are changing from the warm weather to the cold of
winter, and this change leaves us more vulnerable
to getting sick. It’s time to change your diet to
foods that are warm, oily, and slightly heavier to
help to counteract the drying, rough, and cold
quality of wind. It is essential not to let our
digestion get cold as we head into fall and winter
seasons. Our digestion is the key to our immune
system. Start adding winter squash, soups, whole
grains, and root vegetables. This is the time of
the year that I change my oil from coconut oil,
and apply sesame oil on my skin before taking a
bath or shower. It’s good to ward off stiff joints
and it puts a little more heat in the body.
•       It’s also the best time to place more of your
intention into your meditation practices. The

Keeping Yourself Young

imagesI have been using an ancient remedy on patients
for years called Cupping Therapy. It dates back to
Ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern
cultures. Cups are traditionally made of Glass,
Bamboo, and Earthenware. They are placed on the
skin to create suction.

When I was in China the doctors used empty baby
food jars. When I asked why he didn’t use the
traditional cups he said,” these jars don’t cost
me a thing and they work just fine.” Cupping
brings blood flow to the surface to promote the
healing of a broad range of ailments.

• Acne
• Facial paralysis
• Cervical spondylosis
• Pain
• Colds
• Breathing problems
Poor circulation
The goal of Chinese cupping therapy is to move
stagnation of blood and Qi,
disperse excessive heat. I have had a lot of
success working with both
adults and children with respiratory conditions
and pain relief.

A flammable substance such as alcohol is placed in
a cup and set on fire. As the fire goes out, the
cup is placed upside down on the patient’s skin.
As the air inside the cup cools, it creates a
vacuum. This causes the skin to rise from the
strong suctions and the blood is brought to the
surface. The cup is generally left in place for
around 10 minutes. If there is a blockage the skin
will turn red and in some cases even purple and
can last for up to 2 weeks.

In my office I only use the vacuum pump for a few
good reasons. 1. We have sprinkler systems in our
building and I don’t ever want to have a flood. 2.
many years ago when I first learned to use fire
cups I was working on my mother, I was a little
hesitant and I got the rim of the cup hot from the
flame and when I put it on my mothers skin, she
yelled, “you burnt me!” and I’ve never heard the
end of that. The vacuum cups work just fine with
no side effects except having a few red marks for
a week or so, it looks like an octopus gave you a
big kiss.

There are many different treatments used but the
goal is all the same, to keep the flow of Qi
moving. If all the energy is moving you can stay
disease free and live a long healthy life.
Blood follows Qi and the rich blood flow is filled
with oxygen that reaches all of your organs as
well as your brain and our largest organ the skin
to keep you looking and feeling your best.
If you want to keep everything in flow you have to
drink plenty of clean water, eat a healthy diet
and exercise, but the right exercise makes all the
difference. That is why Qi Gong is considered an
exercise for longevity it keeps you young.
I highly suggest learning and practicing Flying
Crane Qi Gong. It’s easy to learn and will
activate all of the meridians. It’s a system that
will keep you healthy, flexible and vibrant.

Don’t Get another Cold!

How many times do you get a cold in a year?
Ones, twice or more?
I used to get a cold every fall and usually a whopper in
the spring as well and I’d be out of commission for at least a
week and if I wasn’t careful I’d end up with a lingering cough to boot.

Usually a person gets a cold when their immune system is
run down and they come in contact with the colds virus.
If you are burning the candle at both ends, stressed to the
max it seems like it’s much easer to pick up a cold.

There are many myths of the common cold.
The fact is, most of them are wrong.
Things like: You can sweat it out– unfortunately,
this does not work – it is completely ineffective.
The Flu Shot can prevent a cold—wrong, sometimes
people get worse colds from the darn shot.
Cold weather can give you a cold—wrong again most
colds are caught in the Spring/Fall seasons.

There is a popular myth that kissing a person with a cold
will cause you to catch it—nope a kiss won’t kill you,
but watch out it is the nasal mucous you have to worry about.
So don’t lick any noses.

The good News when you get symptoms of a cold
(runny nose, coughing, aching body and wiped out)
it can be stopped in its tracks.
If you feel that you are coming down with something don’t
wait another minute, and if you are in the midst of a bad cold
you can lessen the symptoms and duration by days.
Yes, you can get over the sickness quickly… And the treatment is all natural.

I have recommended Vira-Qi to patients, students and
my own family and they are amazed how quickly you can free yourself
of cold symptoms. In fact, take it at the first signs and like magic you will be
feeling great in the morning. Vira Qi is the name, get it today and keep it in
your medicine chest –you will be glad you did.

How to Stay Bug Free While Traveling

Friday, December 9th, 2011

I am about to do some
holiday travel for a few days.
I will be flying up North for
some alone time to write,
meditate and relax.
Although I love to travel, air travel
isn’t as much fun as it used to be.
Especially if you’re on commercial
flights! There is no real food, small
seats and lots of time delays.
When you fly for hours with a group of
people from all over the
World, you never know what bug you can pickup.

Things like colds, flu’s, coughs
or something much worse. I am thinking of
wearing a mask so I am not breathing in
everyone’s germs.
We all know that the airports aren’t the healthiest
places with the over crowded planes filled to
capacity with a bunch of stressed out
people herded into flying machines with crying
babies, bad air, rude employees,
and pissed off passengers.

When I first took a flight years ago, you would
get dressed up to go somewhere and order your
food in advance. You felt you were one
of the privileged to fly. It’s still exciting to
travel for me and it’s one
of the keys to wealth and opportunities in the
Chinese Fung Shui—

Whenever I travel, I make sure I am
in tip top shape.
I always prepare for my trips in advance
to avoid getting
stressed out.

When traveling, you can avoid stressing out
and stay healthy as well.
Here’s how I do it:

1. A few weeks before I hit the road I
start my program.

I increase my meditation and my Qi gong,
paying special attention to the
water element- the Kidneys and the Adrenals,
this builds more internal power
and you can blow your stress away easily.

2. I really Beef-up on my vitamins and
minerals, especially the Vitamin B,
Vitamin C and I take the Chinese tonics
if I am going into the cold.

3. Sleep is really important to keep you stress free.
Get a good nights sleep the day before you travel.
I always travel with my own pillow that makes
every bed I sleep in feel comfortable.

4. Eat good meals with protein and veggies for a
few days before you travel and on the trip.
While traveling, make sure you’re well nourished
and stay light on the carbs, skip the coffee,
chocolate and alcohol.

5. I drink at least 2 quarts of pure water to stay
well hydrated. Flying will dehydrate
your entire system and prune you out.
You may not realize it, but you can easily
suffer from dehydration on airplanes,
especially on long flights. That’s because
air in an airline cabin is usually much dryer than the air on Earth.

6. Keep your colon healthy and your
bowels moving. I increase the amount of oil I ingest.
I like Udo’s oil 3.6.9, you can pick it up at the
health food store and good pure fish oil.

The vitamins and minerals that work the best
for my patients and me are:

Oxy-Hydrate; a powerful one that keeps
the colon healthy.

Adrenal Qi boosts your adrenal glands to keep you stress free.
