The best time to drink water and why

Jack Frost is alive and well in most parts of
northern USA. My friends and family report
freezing cold weather and are bundled up in their
winter cocoon. I don’t miss old man winter a bit.
I did enough cold, ice and snow when I lived in
Michigan and Colorado. Sunny Miami Beach is for me
this time of the year! Although it’s been
unusually warm in the high 70’s and even in the
80’s this time of the year, not bad and I am
surely not complaining!
What we are getting in the Sun Belt is strong
winds daily but as long as the ocean doesn’t rise
too quickly….. I am good.

In the Chinese five-element system this time of
the year, “Winter” is ruled by the water element
and corresponds to the Kidney and the Urinary
Bladder. It’s represented by the color blue
or black, has a salty taste and is most associated
with ears, hearing and alert-stillness. The
direction is north and the negative emotion
is fear, and the positive one is wisdom /Awe. As
you would expect the environment is cold,
of course it would be “it’s winter time.”
You may have forgotten how important it is to stay
hydrated all winter. We usually think more about
hydration in the hot summer, but winter cold
weather can dry you out like a prune. There is
less moisture in the air, you are in heated homes
most of the time all of this can suck you dry.
Water is the drink of choice to keep your system
well hydrated.

How many folks do you know who say they don’t want
to drink anything before going to bed because
they’ll have to get up during the
night?!?

Why do people need to urinate so much at
nighttime?

-
Gravity holds water in the lower part of
your body when you are upright (legs swell). When
you lie down and the lower body (legs etc.) seeks
level with the kidneys, it is then that the
kidneys remove the water because it is easier. We
need water to help flush the toxins out of your
body; I bet you didn’t know this; there is a
correct time to drink water… Very Important!
Drinking water at a certain time maximizes
its effectiveness on the body: Two glasses of
water after waking up helps activate internal
organs. One glass of water 30 minutes before a
meal helps digestion, one glass of water before
taking a bath – helps lower blood pressure and a
glass of water before going to bed can help avoid
stroke or heart attack.

Also drinking water at bed time will help prevent
night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are
seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up
with a Charlie Horse.

If you have a
blockage in your digestive system your entire body
is out of whack. The problem is that when we get
blocked up, the toxins accumulate in our cells,
blood, tissues and organs. When they are stored
there for any length of time all kinds of health
problems rear their ugly heads. Basically our
digestive track is a large tube running from the
mouth to the anus. If you put in good fuel
(food) and clean water, everything does its job
and moves through the tube unobstructed and you
feel good.

Don’t let your diet plug you up, make you sick and
fat.

There is a product that I have been recommending
to my patients and hundreds of them are getting
great results. It’s called Oxy-hydrate by Qi
Essentials. It oxygenates your body as it detoxes.

Best of all, it is not a harmful laxative. The
innovative formula helps to put needed moisture
into the intestine.
It provides superior cleaning ability, yet is safe
and gentle on all systems.

The Smart Way to Get Healthy and Stay Healthy

Everyday I get a slue of questions
from students and patients about acupuncture and
meridian systems. For the most part, most people
are OK with my explanation of the meridians, but when
I start talking about the triple warmer, I can see peoples
eyes roll. So it’s time that I try to unmask what the
mysterious Triple Warmer is all about.

In China it’s called the San Jiao and controls water ways of the body.
The triple warmer has a name but no form. They say the (TW) implies
fire and fire is necessary to control the water in the body.
It controls the water and water movement, thus balancing the
water and heat in the body.

The triple heater connects with all of the other meridians,
it is the over structure laying over all specific organ functions.

They call it the Triple burner because there are three different parts.
The upper burner is in the area of the Lungs and the heart.
It comes in like a mist or a fog and it spreads out and fills in
things, it is in charge of nourishing the flesh, bones and joints
and it regulates the pores.

The middle burner is the stomach, spleen and intestines.
It corresponds to foam and has a churning effect. It is said to
be the part that cooks the grains and filters down wastes and residues.

The lower burner corresponds to the Kidneys, Urinary bladder and the
liver and is said to be like a swamp. It is responsible for separating
the clear from the murky and evacuates the waste materials.

According to Donna Eden, it is our primal survival system, it fights
off illness in our bodies and is also known as our flight or fight response.
Unfortunately, it has not evolved along with the changes in our society.
Keeping the triple warmer balanced is especially important because many
aspects of our modern way of life are registered as invaders by our
triple warmer causing it to fight. You know your triple warmer is
overloaded if you can’t ever relax, even after meditation, or if you
generally feel anxious all the time.

Because triple warmer is a survival function it can pull energy away from
other systems leading to immune disorders, stress, chronic fatigue
and many other uncomfortable emotions/actions.

Although it’s a little known meridian, I use it every day balancing out
health problems in young and old.

Internal Transformation-Change Darkness to Light/Yang to Yin

This morning my practice was
focused on all the Yin organs.
The heart, lungs, spleen, liver, and
kidneys are all vital organs and are
considered Yin in Traditional
Chinese Medicine. Keeping these
organs healthy and disease free- will
keep all the Yang organs strong and
healthy as well. Like the stomach,
gall bladder, large and
small intestine and the bladder.

In the five element system,
every organ has an emotion to it
as well. For example, the liver
is associated with anger on the
negative side and kindness on the
more positive side. The lungs are
associated with sadness, grief, valor
and courageousness on the more positive note.

The reason why we focus on the
Yin organs is they will balance out the
Yang as you work them in Qi Gong, or
when you’re getting an acupuncture treatment.

It’s like an alchemical process where
you’re changing one emotion to the other.
You’re able to free yourself of any form
of dis –ease by getting the energy to flow.

In China, there isn’t much of a
physiology department or need for
too many psychiatrists.

When there is an imbalance
in the mind there will be an
imbalance in the organ associated with it.

The Heart/ Small Intestines-
Negative: Anxiety, Rush, and Hastiness.
Positive: Love, Respect, Honor, and Joy.

The Spleen/Stomach-
Negative: Worry
Positive: Balance and Equanimity

The Lung/ Large Intestines-
Negative: Sadness and Grief
Positive: Valor and Courageousness

The Kidneys/ Urinary Bladder-
Negative: Fear
Positive: Gentleness

The Liver/ Gallbladder-
Negative: Anger
Positive: Kindness

In the Recharging Qi Gong program,
I teach the Yin set, a series of prescriptive
exercises that focus primarily on the organs
to change the negative emotion alchemically
to the positive emotion and at the same time
correcting the imbalance in the organ.
If the Qi is flowing, blood will naturally follow.
If there is a blockage in the energy patter,
it causes a blockage in the Qi, a stagnation
of the blood, and dis-ease is soon to follow.

In the Recharging Qi Gong program,
specially selected exercises are taught to
not only improve your health but to increase
your energy by TEN FOLD. There are thousands
of people practicing these exercises in seven
different continents, and all report more energy
in general, more vitality, their flexibility has
increased, and their sexual appetite and performance
is the best ever. If you don’t have this program yet,
