A Lifestyle to Prevent Disease and Promote Quick Recovery from Injuries

I’m headed back to Motown for a few days.

My son started rehabilitation from a motorcycle accident, and I want to see what’s going on. When he was just a toddler, we left Michigan and moved to Colorado to a small ski town named Telluride.

The majestic mountain peaks are as high as 14,000 feet. I first took him skiing when he was just three, and as he grew up, we also did a lot of hiking and mountain climbing. Living in the mountains, you develop your body quite quickly.

I remember one summer when I brought the family back to Michigan to see grandparents and friends, everyone else’s kids looked like they were malnourished or something. They weren’t. They just spent a lot of time indoors and didn’t have the opportunity to climb, ski or play in nature. Living at 8945 feet above sea level, your lungs develop and so does your body strength.

After high school, my son eventually left Colorado and moved to LA. Our family was always physical and loved the outdoors. In fact, when I was 16, my father let me join a gym. Within family tradition, all of us worked out, swam, did martial arts and spent a lot of time outdoors. I hit the gym way before it was popular; I worked out at least five or six days a week.  But my son took it to an entirely new level. He became a bodybuilding competitor.

I’m sharing this with you, because it has to do with his recovery program from the motorcycle injury and how the body will tend to return to what it is used to. Our bodies have a muscle memory, and for the most part, it will always strive to get back to what and how it sees itself. This rehabilitation program he’s in starts early morning for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. He has a very determined mind, so I’m sure he’ll be in good shape in a few months. While I’m there, I’ll do a few treatments on him as well.

Some people don’t do much physical work or exercise, and they eat every meal like it’s their last. That’s ok for the most part in every-day life. The problem from these inactive, over-eating habits occurs when they have an accident or get a disease. Then, they start running an uphill battle. If you’re in good physical shape, and you have been fueling your body with healthy foods and drink, your recovery will be much quicker. That’s why it pays to live a lifestyle with a program that supports health.

Over the years, I’ve experimented with many different diets, fasting and a multitude of exercises. What I’ve found is that an 80% diet of fresh, mostly locally grown organic fruits and veggies works best. As for the other 20% fun foods, I’ll have a drink now and then or an ice cream now and then. But organic plant-based foods are the best.
