The Road to Recovery

Throughout our lives, we’re either growing, recovering or sitting stagnant. Those of us who are taking time to grow, taking classes, workshops and moving forward in life are actually evolving. And even in our next incarnation, we’ll come back as teachers and as Buddhists say, we’ll return as a Bodhisattva.

A Bodhisattva is a person who has attained prajna, or enlightenment, but who postpones nirvana in order to help others to attain enlightenment.

Some people choose to give up or numb out with drugs, alcohol or other addictions that this planet offers us. It could take much longer for them to move forward on the path.

But for those of us who are willing to work consciously, there are many opportunities to make our lives and the lives of the people around us better.

On my recent trip to Michigan, I had the honor and privilege to work on my own son. He had a motorcycle accident about three months ago and is slowly recovering. He’s getting physical therapy 90 minutes a day, speech therapy 45 minutes a day and occupational therapy 45 minutes a day at The Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan: a world renown facility for brain injuries. After doing acupuncture and medical qigong on him for four days in a row, his speech has recovered, and he now has a strong voice. His physical strength also improved in his right hand as well as his coordination. We’re still working on his left side.

Usually when I see a patient once a week, I’m not able to see the recovery as rapidly. But, with 24-hr supervision and getting hours of therapy every day, seeing the daily recovery is remarkable.

There are some things that I would like to see added to this facility: a hyperbaric to force more oxygen into the cells causing a quicker recovery – as well as stem cell therapy. I noticed driving downtown that my friend Jordan Gold has a facility here called The Stretch Zone where you go in for a treatment and they stretch you like someone else is doing a yoga class for you. Although it’s a passive exercise, I’ll sign my son up for a dozen treatments once I return to Florida.

If you have friends or loved ones who are recovering from an accident and are experiencing physical or neurological problems, have them give us a call at 305-407-0120, and I’m sure we can expedite the recovery time.

At The Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, the doctors agree that acupuncture is an added benefit to anyone’s recovery. Although they’re not familiar with medical qigong, this is another therapy I use on my patients to help rid the body of trauma. Come see me for details.
