I guess we all hope for this when we return from vacation: a vacation to rest from our vacation.
My trip to Portugal was extremely active. Most of the things that I accomplished were internal. This was my first trip to Europe in many years and my first time in Portugal. New surroundings, new food, new language: my view of the world has opened up again.
As a doctor, I’m always at service to people. I ended up working on many of my hosts and made new friends from a totally different world. Ninety percent of the food in Portugal is organic, Non-GMO. In the morning, I picked grapes off the vines, plumbs off of the trees and ate bread free of glyphosate. In the US, we struggle and search for such foods. The food in Europe is far less expensive, a hundred times tastier and is pure, organic, nourishing food.
The locals I’ve spoken to are more affluent than most. Their view of our government and our leaders is disbelief and a joke to them. They can’t believe that such people are running the United States. The way everything is being managed including our food, our energy, our education, our medicines and our general health. The health of the US citizens used to be in the top 6 internationally. Now, we’re at 36.
I’ve seen more solar power and wind generation in my 10 days here, than I’ve seen in three years in the US. Europe is being weaned off of coal and fossil fuels. Although I’m anxious to get home and go back to serving my patients and seeing my meditation students, it saddens me that the US is on a path of destruction.
