Stay Cool with Qigong: Workshop Starts Saturday

Most of the media outlets tell us that Labor Day is the end of summer and fall begins. Now THAT is fake news. BUT – kids going back to school and moms finally getting a break sure makes it seem like fall to them.

This is the best time of the year to start doing internal exercise like Qigong to cool you down.

Autumn actually doesn’t really start until September 22nd. The autumnal equinox – when the day the sun moves into Libra – is when the season really changes, and we are officially in fall. In Chinese medicine, fall is ruled by the metal element and will affect your lungs and large intestine. They say the metal element effects the emotions of sadness and grief on the negative side and valor and courageousness on the positive. It’s a good time to move forward on all your projects. If we like it or not summer could return for one final hurrah. Higher temperatures could be on the way back, bringing an Indian summer to much of the US.

There is a chance that the late-summer heat could envelope much of the world and global warming is getting a better hold every day. If you believe it or not, it’s getting hotter, and the hot weather is sticking around longer.

What can you do to stay cool and help divert this heat?

  • Power your home with renewable energy. Solar and wind power is getting cheaper and will reduce your carbon profile.
  • Invest in energy-efficient appliances. The new air conditioners will cut your electricity bill up to 40%, and the newer refrigerators will save hundreds of dollars a year.
  • Reduce water waste. I have a 50-gallon rain barrel, and I collect rain water for the garden.
  • Grow a vegetable garden and eat the food you buy.
  • Put a smart thermostat on your home, get energy saving light bulbs and change your air filters often.
  • Whenever you can, walk and ride a bike.
  • Change your exercise to body resistance training and internal exercises

To help you cool down, I’m teaching another Qi Gong Class starting this Saturday ON THE BEACH! Space is limited, so call the office today at 305-407-0120 and get details.
