Let’s Get It On

When I was in acupuncture school years ago, I spent hours and hours studying. When it was time for a big exam, I really crammed for those tests.

Looking back, I think I had a lot of anxiety around testing. I knew the info, but not trusting myself, I spent hours hitting the books.

At times, I would start to nod out, but the mixed-martial arts fights kept me going. Every time I got sleepy, I’d watch a fight and get myself amped up again. That energy would last through a few more hours of study.

When the fighters were ready, the referee would shout out, “Let’s get it on!” This is how the UFC starts every fight, and it became my battle cry to keep me going.

This is a marvelous saying to use in daily life.

“Let’s. Get. It. On.”

I use it every morning before I get out of bed. I was up late the other night and I had an early morning appointment. When I woke up around 6 a.m., and I wanted to just lie there and skip my training.

But the next thing I did was to say my battle cry: “Let’s Get It On!”

Once you learn to communicate with your brain, you are the boss. Your brain is there to serve you. Take charge, instruct it, tell it what to do – NOT the other way around.

If your brain wins the battle, you’re a SLAVE to it. If you win the battle, your brain is your faithful SERVANT.

The greatest thinkers and philosophers who ever lived – took charge of their mind. They woke up early and went for long walks, so they could think clearer; they walked to meditate, to create and to solve problems.

Walking isn’t all they did – and neither is it my only training, but it is essential to

being alive. If you don’t walk regularly, your life will be out of flow.

  1. Walking boosts your moods.
  2. Walking enhances creativity.
  3. Walking sparks connections between brain cells.
  4. Walking improves memory.
  5. Walking yields the right rhythm for thinking.
  6. Walking is a powerful way to connect with nature.

But how do you get yourself going and KEEP yourself going in the morning, especially when you have good excuses for not getting out of bed?

You believe in a daily discipline that you do without let-up, OR ELSE:

You beat yourself up in some way; or you give yourself a reward for following your discipline, and you have a punishment if you don’t. By beating yourself up, I don’t mean you hurt yourself, you simply refuse to reward yourself – and that’s usually all it takes. “No dessert for you today, my man. You didn’t train.”

There are other tricks I use to keep inspiration levels high, even when I’m drowsy. I also practice a variety of Qi Gong walking techniques.

Come join me and the others all over this world learning these techniques, who are living the dream.
