All About The Lungs.

Lately patients are showing up at my office with Lung issues. Their chief complaint is either a funky cough that sticks around, lots of mucus, shortness of breath; or feelings of Sadness and Depression.

These things are typical in the Fall, however some of this is the residual effects of Covid-19.

Persons are also dealing with some Seasonal Allergies. The Lungs are a solid Yin Organ, and are associated with the Large Intestine, corresponding to the Metal Element.

Our Lungs are the uppermost Organ that shelters all of the other Internal Organs.

The Lung spreads the Qi through the Interior and Exterior aspect of the torso.

Related to water metabolism the Lungs helps blood circulation and the Autonomic Nervous System and the Immune System.

In Chinese Medicine the Lungs include the Psycho-Emotional aspects of Integrity Attachment and Grief. Our Lungs also have a powerful Spiritual Influence on our entire Being!

The main functions of the Lungs are:

Governs Respiration

Controls Blood Vessels

Regulates Water Passage

Controls Skin and Body Hair

Opens to the Nose

Emotional Aspect Sadness and Grief

In the Fall our Lungs are the most active. During this Season, Strong Winds and the excessive consumption of pungent foods or drinks can cause Lung problems and over-exposure to dryness, will hurt the Lungs.

Pungent foods like Garlic and Green Onions will Tonify both the Lungs and Large Intestine. The color white is used to strengthen the Lungs and the sound Shhh, Sss and Shang are used to purge the Lungs.
