A New Moon – Called ‘The Cold Moon’ – Is set to rise on December 4th. The name summarizes the onset of the Winter Season in the Northern Hemisphere; having been passed down from Indigenous American groups.
It will be visible above the horizon for longer, given that it’s a ‘High’ Moon as well as a ‘Cold’ one!
Cold is not the only term for this moon though, with the Farmers Almanac stating that it can also be called: Hoar Frost Moon, Snow Moon, Winter Maker Moon, Long Night Moon, Drift Clearing Moon, Frost Exploding Trees Moon, Moon of the Popping Trees and Moon When the Deer Shed Their Antlers.
For those who follow their star sign, the New Moon falls over the Sagittarius and Gemini periods. With an eclipse also set to appear with the new moon, themes are said to be around proceeding with caution, before better things are revealed.
When does the December Cold Moon start?
Gazers are in for quite a treat! With the moon not set to reach it’s full phase until December 19!
Premiering will also be a Geminids Meteor Shower, which is sometimes referred to as the ‘King of the Meteor Showers!’ The dates for this light show are expected to be from December 7th to 17th, peaking on December 13th and 14th.
An Ursids meteor shower – one that occurs annually; may also be seen in the night skies between December 17th and 25th, with it’s peak on December 21.

Good News; the December 2021 Sagittarius New Moon flips the script, helping us to review life from a philosophical perspective. It’s lofty considering the year we’ve had. We have been tried and tested! Hello! But you are still here! Geared with the helmet of emotional resilience and empathy, we forge ahead into Newness!
Sagittarius is the eternal seeker and student of the zodiac. This New Moon asks: “What are we meant to learn from this? In what ways did we grow? Are there lessons still to apply?”
The answers may not come easy, or from the usual sources. The December 2021 Sagittarius New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse. The Sun will briefly blocked out the Soulful Moon. Metaphorically, this “Lights Out” moment forces us to “See Spiritually” with other senses besides our vision! A period of introspection, while gaining an epiphany about how to redesign our support systems. 
Take some “Shut In’ time for yourself in this season, Be Still and know that you will come out of the Fire, refined and polished! Even fine Metals have to go through the process of cupellation to turn into precious Gold!
