What’s At The Root Of Chinese Energetic Medicine?

What’s At The Root Of Chinese Energetic Medicine?

When I was in acupuncture school, there was a
student who didn’t believe in Qi and thought that
just learning the points would be enough to be a
good doctor. Unfortunately, he never made it as a
doctor. The last I heard he became an
accountant. If you don’t believe in energy, you
sure can’t practice energy medicine.

Qi is the alpha and omega.

Without Qi, the energy behind Medical Qi gong and
acupuncture is like buying a new Italian Pagani
and not getting the key. The Chinese character
that gives us the word Qi means the human vitality
or essential functional energy of life. It also
means breath. Bio-electrical breath, resonating
bio-electrical field and human bio-magnetic field
are other translation attempts that give a rich
and graphic image for the Qi. It is the Qi or life
force that maintains the healthy and harmonious
function of the human body’s self-regulating
systems. It is the Qi that the doctor of oriental
medicine manipulates with acupuncture. It is the
Qi that binds the planets into a solar system,
holds the electrons in their orbital shells around
the nucleus of the atom and drives the sprout
upward.

The energy (Qi) is within the mystical realm of
ancient Chinese shamanism practices. The
difference between good doctors is a great doctor
knows of the Qi and how to work with it, both
internally and externally. In ancient China,
Shamans were highly respected. The entire
community consulted with them regularly for health
ailments, relationships, spiritual unrests and
occult problems. The Shamans were known as “Wu
Yi”. The Wu Yi understood that birth, existence,
transformation and death of the entire universe
happened under the influence of the energetic
transformation of Qi. In fact, the basis for all
Chinese medicine and spiritual practices is
Qi. The Wu Yi possessed special magical powers in
both the human world and the supernatural
world. The magic of chants and incantations,
herbal formulas, Qi and Shen emission, massage,
rituals and healing prayers are all part of the Wu
Yi’s work.

Over the last forty years, I have been trained in
many of these skills. I share many of these
practices with those of you who choose this
