The mystery of the green pearl

Last week I was in Mo Town, (Detroit) back to my old roots to
celebrate a coming of age ceremony of my brother’s daughter.

A Coming of age ceremony is a young person’s transition from
childhood to adulthood that represents a passage from one stage
of life to another, a ritualistic cycle to take responsibility
for their spiritual life.

Regardless of your faith or upbringing I think it is important
to attend these things. Not just for the youth but for
ourselves as well.

The experience I had last week is a perfect example.

The ceremony was held in a really magical spot, a beautiful
chapel in West Bloomfield Michigan nestled in a forest of
maples, oak and elm trees.

At the gathering I spotted a guy that I haven’t seen in years.

I didn’t remember where I knew him from but I knew I knew him.

I went over and introduced myself.

He apologized but said he didn’t remember me. On a hunch I
asked if he was a jeweler and he was, but we still couldn’t
recall how we met.

A few minutes later he came over to my table, very emotional,
and told me a story.

“I now remember. In the early eighties we were neighbors in the
same apartment building” he said.

He went on to say. “I was walking off the elevator and you
asked me what I was going to do that evening, I said nothing
and you handed me two tickets to an event that you were
teaching. That event saved my life.”

The man then related the personal challenges he had faced since
that night and how the teachings had helped him survive and
deal with several horrendous personal tragedies with courage,
insight and optimism.

I didn’t know what to say so I continued to listen.

He told me that the workshop he went to with his wife changed
their lives forever.

His wife had begun to train in a few of the various different
programs back then for energy and personal development. She
became so good that she herself became a teacher and often
landed great jobs teaching corporate executives how to balance
energy, mind, and their lives.

Tragically, his wife was killed a few years later when a drunk
driver slammed into her car. Both of their two children were
riding in the car and instantly killed as well.

The man was left without a wife or his children. The empty
space in his heart and home began to fill with sorrow and
madness.

Instead of being swallowed by it he remembered his practice.

Through practice and surrender he was able to let go. His heart
began to heal and his energy began to flow again.

He said he was trying to contact me for years, but had no idea
how to find me and had finally given up the search.

What was even stranger was that just days prior to us meeting
again he had found some green pearls I had left with him
decades ago to string. He remembered me, the seminar, and all
the trials he had faced and how he persevered to create a new
life.

Certain that he would never meet that man from the elevator
again, he quietly put the green pearls back in the drawer he
found them in. Days later, although not recognizing me at
first, we were reunited at a very special ceremony.

Ironic? I think not.

I think it goes much deeper than that.

We never know how we affect others’ lives. We are always
meeting people who seem so familiar to us. Some we immediately
feel attracted to, others we run from. Some we may actually
know from some other place or distant time and some we have
never met.

The instinctual wisdom that resides in us is our guide. The
wise learn how to listen and cultivate that power. This is
exactly how Qi Gong works.

Simple movements, breathing and visualization become the path
to open an unlimited flow of energy, once released ones true
potential is revealed.

I love the type of experience that happened last week, it seems
to happen more and more to me as I enter this new phase in my
own life.

I hope that you will join me in discovering how Qi Gong can
change your life. If you haven’t already be sure to read the
