The Gift that saved My Life

Last week, one of my students went into an estate sale in Miami to look around, and she came across a bronze Guan Yin statue. She really didn’t know the importance of her find and who Guan Yin is, but she bought it and presented it to me as a gift. I was blown away by her generosity and kindness. Guan Yin is one of my personal protectors who saved my life. Ten years ago, I traveled to China with a group of Medical Qigong doctors and students of the Daoism. It was more than a trip to China. It was a journey into self-discovery, insight, and learning. When one travels so far, they do not want simple basic practices. This was the real deal. I relished the trip and all the ritual work we did with the monks at Long Hu Sheng Temple. However, after 2 weeks of intense training, I needed to be off on my own. I traveled to the island of Putuo Shan, one of the sacred mountains of China. It is known as the “Heaven of the Sea” and is a renowned site in Chinese Buddhism considered as the Bodhimanda of Avalokitesvara (Guan Yin). Guan Yin is the patron of Bodhisattva of Putuo Shan, mistress of the Southern Sea. As such, she is shown crossing the sea seated or standing on a lotus or on the head of a dragon. The dragon is an ancient symbol for high spirituality, wisdom, strength, and divine powers of transformation. Guan Yin is the goddess of mercy and compassion. I believe that she has a similar energy to Mary the Virgin in the Catholic religion. On the island of Putuo Shan, there is a statue of Guan Yin that is thirty-three meters or one hundred eight feet high both very sacred numbers. When I was there, I walked from the base of the statue to the top nine times, chanting her mantra and building my internal Qi. Some days after leaving Putuo Mountain, I returned to the USA and visited a friend in Northern California. We decided to go to Calistoga Springs and soaked in the thermal waters, which were delish. On the way back to his house, someone hit us head-on! The airbags exploded and, luckily, neither of us was injured. When I contacted my Lama, he said we were saved by the grace of Guan Yin. To this day, I am ever grateful for the blessing and to be alive. When I made the Mantra program, it was dedicated to the Goddess.
