I met up with an old friend today. We haven’t hung
out for quite a few years, but we both noticed the
same thing. We are as close as ever. Although we
took different paths for the last ten years, our
friendship has continued to grow. I started
blogging and making videos, increased my knowledge
of internal medicine, and now specialize in
Medical Qi Gong and longevity medicine. On the
other hand, after we practiced Chinese medicine
for sixteen years together, he was still searching
for more and took a more Western scientific path.
He dove into medical school for ten years; of
course, he was the top of his class. Despite our
different practices, we share very similar views
on life. It’s not about how to cure people, though
that’s part of the whole, but it’s more about
ending the suffering of mankind. Sounds a bit
Buddhist in nature even to me.
I heard the saying many times, “Pain is mandatory,
suffering is optional.” Let me give you an
example. You are hanging a picture on the wall and
you hit your thumb with the hammer. That’s pain.
For the next ten years, you complain about it.
That’s suffering. Suffering includes all the
problems experienced in life, including those
within the mind. Ending suffering to the best of
our ability is what my friend and I have in
common. Some of it medical, others energetic, but
it all goes back to the same foundation. People
ask me this all the time, “Dr. Wu Dhi, what do you
do to keep such great shape?” For the most part, I
direct them to practicing Qi Gong. I also take
vitamins, eat only foods that are healthy for me,
and drink plenty of clean water. If
your immune system is healthy, guess what? No
colds, no cancer, and the body fights off disease
on its own.
As you age, things start to slow down, but you can
restore, rejuvenate and rebuild. Using the best of
the East and the West, my friend and I came up
with a plan on how to build our immune systems to
stay healthy and young in body, mind and spirit.
