It’s Time to Begin

Deep down inside, we know when it’s time to begin
something new. We don’t have to be told when it’s
that time, we just know when it’s time to start
something new and we do. No matter if it is to
change your diet, to drop a few pounds or to stop
drinking or smoking, you just know when it’s that
moment in time and it just happens.

The same thing happens in nature. The caterpillar
knows when it’s time to go into the chrysalis and
transform into a butterfly. Birds fly south for
the winter and whales migrate. It usually is
sometime around seasonal changes.

The New Year can also be a time to begin something
new. For instance, the Chinese New Year at the end
of February is when I usually plant my incredible
Feng Shui garden. But this year will be different
since I have moved into a condo. Many of my
friends, students and patients also live in
apartments or condos and don’t have the place or
the opportunity to grow a garden. But don’t fret
because there are still ways to surround yourself
with eatable greens. An apartment doesn’t have to
stop you from growing your own vegetables as long
as you have a balcony or a patio and some direct
sunlight.

This year, I’ll plant radishes, lettuce, spinach
and a few trays of wheat grass. They grow well in
cool weather and don’t require as much sun. Be
sure you find containers that are deep enough to
allow the plants to create good roots. Plants like
lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, radishes, peas or
beans can easily grow from seed, and peas and
wheat come up really fast and are so good for you.

Growing your own food is one way to perk up your
diet and put more Qi into your body. I believe
that homegrown foods:
* Increase your Qi
* Provide additional nutrition
* Have a superior taste
* Have richer color

More Qi means more energy and more vitality which
equals to better health.

It is the same when you are doing Qi Gong
exercises. You set up your internal terrain to be
more fertile and to produce more powerful Qi.
