Change Your Diet Now
In the Chinese Five-Element System, we are in the
Spring time of the year. The most active element at
this time is Wood. This is the season to attend to
the liver and the gallbladder. Your diet should be
lighter than in winter, lots of young plants,
fresh greens, and sprouts. Start adding more
beets, carrots, and spring garden veggies. Eat
more sweet and pungent-flavored foods. Avoid salty
foods like miso and meats for they have a tendency
of sinking energy. You may also notice more colds
and coughs, and the emotion of anger coming up for
the next few months. Emotionally speaking, this
phase is about controlling your anger and bringing
in more kindness into your life.
In spring, it’s a very good time to increase your
practice and training time. See if you can get in
another half an hour in a day, and it will make a
big difference in the way you feel and how you
look and act. Nowadays, my workout is both morning
and evening. I usually only rest one day a week.
The best times to train are sunrise and
sunset, when the day is fresh and when it is
starting to close down.
