Leigong The Lord of Thunder.

I like to train early morning and watch the sun rise, but for the past week it’s been raining cats and dogs, every day all day!

The street where I live looks like a river; and the roads are slippery.

According to the forecast this storm will be going on for another few days.  Well at least I don’t have to water the garden.

Last Thursday we had one of the biggest thunderstorms I’ve seen in years. I really love thunderstorms and all the Energy and Ozone in the air. It’s so refreshing and purifying!

When I was in China at the Monastery, the main Deity was Leigong the ‘Lord of Thunder.’ Leigong banishes evil Spirits, who have used their knowledge of Taoism to harm human beings. He carries a drum and mallet to produce thunder and a chisel to punish evildoers. Leigong also rides a chariot.
Leigong is depicted as a fearsome creature with claws, bat wings and a blue face with a bird’s beak who wears only a loincloth

Since Leigong’s power is thunder, he has assistants capable of producing other types of Heavenly Phenomena.  Leizi, is Leigong’s wife and the Goddess of Lightning, who is said to have used flashing mirrors to send bolts of lightning across the sky.
It is said that Lei Gong began life as a mortal. While on earth, he encountered a peach tree that originated from Heaven during the struggle between the Fox Demon and one of the Celestial Warriors. When Leigong took a bite out of one of it’s fruit, he was transformed into his godly form. He soon received a mace and a hammer that could create thunder.

I love the Mythology of all cultures around the world and thunder and lightning are included in most. The average bolt of lightning, striking from cloud to ground, contains roughly one billion (1,000,000,000) joules of Energy.

One of the reasons I love going out in a storm is to do my walking Meditation and cultivate the Energy that’s generated by nature. One can feel the power and the amount of Qi available. It’s there for the taking once you learn how to cultivate Qi you can recharge your Body, Mind and
Spirt. These are referred to in Taoism as:

“The Three Treasures. The Essential Energies that sustains human life:
      1. Jing -nutritive essence, essence refined, perfected; extract; spirit, sperm, seed.

2.   Qi- vitality, energy, force; air, vapor; breath; spirit, vigor; attitude

3. Shen –  Spirit; Soul, Mind; GOD, Deity; Supernatural Being.

A key to the Internal Work lies in the building and balancing of the Three Treasures and how to work the Internal Energies. You  can use the Three Treasures to keep you Healthy, Physically, Mentally and Spiritually
