Flying Crane Qi Gong, QI

Over- Training is as Bad as No Training

I received an emergency call today from a massage
therapist. She makes her living by going to
people’s homes and doing deep tissue work on them.
She is very good in what she does. The reason she
got in touch with me is she now has carpal tunnel
syndrome from the overuse of her hands, especially
her thumb. She is a powerful woman, but she is
burning up her yin (water), and the yang (fire)
energy is over the top.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful condition of
the hand and fingers caused by compression of a
major nerve which passes over the carpal bones
through a passage at the front of the wrist,
alongside the flexor tendons of the hand. It may
be caused by repetitive movements over a long
period, or by fluid retention, and is
characterized by sensations of tingling, numbness,
or burning. This is a common problem for people
who do a repetitious job or work with their hands
a lot. I usually don’t see this kind of syndrome
in women, but men get it all the time from
overtraining and not nurturing the yin. The
treatment consists of acupuncture and myofascial
release.

I have found that the Flying Crane Qi Gong
