Heaven or Hell, it’s your Choice

unnamed
Back in the eighties I was heavily engaged in my
spiritual studies as well as the healing arts.

Every summer for years I would leave whatever I
was doing in life and meet with a group of
students in a remote place either the mountains of
Colorado or Northern California for a three-month
meditation retreat. This is how I spent my summers
for years. I remember one special summer where the
teachings were focused on the realms of
consciousness and the way we nourish ourselves
internally and externally. The teacher told us a
very powerful myth about the difference between
heaven and hell.

The fable describes hell as a room in which a
bunch of angry emaciated people were sitting
around a banquet table. On the round banquet table
is piled a wonderful feast, with many platters of
the most delicious-smelling foods that one can
imagine. Strapped to the forearms of the famished
people sitting around this table in hell are
four-foot-long forks and spoons, so no matter how
they try, they cannot get any food into their
mouths.

Heaven, on the other hand, is room in which
jovial, well-fed people sit around a banquet table
that is piled high with a wonderful feast, with
many platters of the most delicious-smelling foods
that one can imagine. Strapped to the forearms of
the happy people sitting around this table in
heaven are four-foot-long forks and spoons—and the
people are feeding one another across the table.

After he told the story a large banquet was
brought into the room for the evening meal but we
didn’t have anything to eat. Not a spoon or a fork
could be found anywhere. Before we sat down to
eat, the teacher made an announcement,“You will
notice there is no silverware, and no chopsticks
but we want all of you to enjoy the wonderful
feast by feeding each other with your hands. The
only rule is you can only feed someone else, not
your self.”

The idea of the exercise was to give to others and
they will give back to you, that’s why I write and
teach thousands of people a week from all over the
world. The more you give the more you have the
capacity to receive. You wouldn’t want to show up
at the bank for free money with a thimble, you
would want to show up with a wheelbarrow.

If you are ready to fill up your own wheelbarrow,
I’ll help you. Get moving today by sharing my blog
