Tomorrow, I’m off to Europe to be more specific: Lisbon, Portugal. I don’t speak a word of Portuguese, but I have a whole group of students and patients waiting for me to untangle some knots.
This will be my first trip to Europe in over 6 years. I look forward to the food and to opening up to a different part of the world. To expand our minds, we have to read, go on adventures, be around new people, eat different foods and change your life. Whenever I go on a trip, and I leave the US, I come back a better person. When you travel, it forces your mind to expand. Just listening to a different language all day causes you to put out your antennas and feelers. You figure out ways to communicate with people even if you don’t understand the language.
Years ago, in the 80s, I moved to Venezuela. Back then, it was quite peaceful, elegant and romantic. Even though I didn’t speak Spanish, I still saw patients every day. I really broadened my mind and body during that time to understand what was going on in my patients’ lives and bodies and be able to treat them to get them on a path of harmony and well-being.
I’ll be back from Portugal by October 15, and I’ll be looking forward to sharing this new awareness and knowledge with all of my patients and students.
