Is Being Erotic and Artistic considered Sexual?
Whenever you spend time with creative people, you
have the opportunity to open your eyes and your
mind to see life differently than most.
“Life isn’t a support system for art. It’s the
other way around.” – Stephen King
Amy Sundberg, a very creative writer, wrote this
about creativity: “Art supports life; it creates
meaning, some semblance of order created from the
complications of existence. It takes us outside of
ourselves and pushes us more deeply inside of
ourselves. It raises as many questions as it
provides answers. Being an artist, then, is about
more than a job or a career. Being an artist
becomes a state of mind.”
I met up with a very creative and brilliant film
artist for the Labor Day weekend. Neither one of
us had any plans for the long weekend, but we knew
we were going to have some excitement together.
When you get two creative people together, the
possibilities are limitless. We started our day at
Glaser Farms in the Grove for breakfast and a
little shopping, then off to the Pérez Art Museum
Miami (PAMM). Our creative juices were really
flowing, and she suggested that we have a little
erotic fun. There is a museum that we both wanted
to see in South Beach, The World Erotic Art
Museum. This is a gem filled with artifacts from
the seed of creativity. They have an interesting
collection of sensual, sexy objects from all over
the world. One of the things that struck me was
from the legend, Lady Godiva.
It was back in 1057, taking pity on those
grievously suffering in the town of Coventry,
England under oppressive taxation by her husband,
the Earl of Mercia, Lady Godiva was challenged to
ride naked through the marketplace and promised
the tax burden would be eased if she did so. Lady
Godiva took him at his word and, after issuing a
proclamation that all persons should keep within
doors and shut their windows, she rode through the
town, clothed only in her long hair. In the end,
Lady Godiva’s husband keeps his word and abolishes
the arduous taxes, and Lady Godiva became a
celebrated local legend. Only one person in
Coventry disobeyed the proclamation and drilled a
hole in his shutters, so that he might see Lady
Godiva as she passed by. According to legend, he
was stuck blind or dead for his voyeurism. A
tailor henceforth known as Peeping Tom.
