Heavy Metal

When I saw my first patient yesterday in the office, I thought
about heavy metal. Now when I talk about heavy metal, it isn’t
Metallica, or Megadeth, or any of those long haired, incredibly
loud rock bands that some people seem to think are way cool.

No. Metal is one of the five Chinese elements, and fall is it’s
season.

My patient complained of sleeplessness, breathing problems, and
depression.

The metal element encompasses a wide spectrum of things that
have to do with giving and taking from the environment. If it
isn’t balanced, you can end up by feeling depressed. Often this
manifests itself in respiratory difficulties, asthma, lung
infections, colds, and flu.

I can usually pick out people who have a problem with the metal
element. They have soft weak voices, pale complexions, and
they’re often thin and weak.

But there are many positive things about fall, or the metal
season. In South Florida it means that the blistering hot
summer is over. It means the dangerous hurricane season is
over. It means the days of high humidity are over. It’s also
harvest time, when all the things that were planted are ready
to reap.

The positive emotions of the fall or metal season are valor and
courage. It’s a time to move forward with strength and internal
power. It’s a very important time to be working on your lungs
and elimination system.

That means that when you wake up in the morning you start off
with deep breathing exercises, like the lung exercise from the
yin set. I explain all this and more in my Recharging Qigong
program.

You’ll want to also modify your diet for the season. I cover
all that and more in my program. It’s a step by step guide to
improve every aspect of your health, mentally, physically, and
spiritually.
