Qi gong, Recharging Qi Gong

13 steps of Motionless Qi Gong

Yesterday I mentioned that I like to start every workout with
a little standing meditation.

In case you missed it, I wanted to give you a little more on
this because I feel its one of thee most important things you
can do for any physical training.

Any?

Yes any!

And you can get benefit from it right away.

Let me explain.

I used to be an avid skier, and by skier I mean the kind where
the water is frozen not like the kind they do here in Florida.

I grew up in Detroit but for many years I was blessed with a
home in Telluride, this is one of the greatest ski slopes in
the world and once I learned to ski I couldn’t get enough of it.

Snow skiing, especially telemarking (basically downhill skiing
on cross country skis) is like high intensity Qi Gong. You
really have to extend your attention ahead of you while at the
same time  be totally connected to your body in an elastic and
super sensitive way.

Muscles are in use but not locked. You are responsive to the
slightest change in the condition of the snow under your feet
while at the same time you are projecting your self rapidly and
purposely down a mountain!

Well, Snow Skiing has a very meditative side to it as well.

Once you complete your run down the mountain you sit
motionless. (in a ski lift)

Now you are able to take inventory of your body. Am I ready for
another run?

Your spirit (and body) is lifted.

You are given a vantage point high above everything you just
went through and you see it all new, as if for the first time.

You are able to pick a new path for your energy (and body) to
follow, one that will be even more fun.

Then you land on top of the mountain, your body rested and your
mind refreshed. You are ready to act.

I had a lot of time to practice meditation when I went skiing!
I still love to combine this principle of intense activity and
motionless meditation in every thing I do.

Maybe Khalil Gibran meant it literally when he said
“rest in reason; move in passion”.

If you haven’t started to do the standing meditation before and
after practicing the Recharging Qi Gong
(http://rechargingqigong.com) or any Qi Gong type practice
you’re missing out.

The good news is that it’s simple to start right away.

Here’s how:

  1. Before you begin stand motionless and survey your body.
  2. How do you feel?
  3. Are you ready?
  4. What will you do differently this time?
  5. How can you improve?
  6. How closely will you match your intention with your movements?
  7. Now relax just feeling.
  8. Then without any apprehension begin your practice.
  9. Be like an artist and focus on the texture of the movements.
  10. Then when you complete the practice just stop motionless again
and take survey of your body.
  11. How did you do?
  12. Now how do you feel?
  13. Then pause once more with no particular thing in mind.

And then go about your business.

It’s that simple but the benefit is enormous. Practice in this
way and you will make huge gains in any discipline you practice.

Granted there’s a lot more that you can do as all of you that
have the Recharging Qi Gong know but this is an easy way to
start Motionless Qi Gong and you can apply it anywhere.

Keep those emails coming and let me know how your practice is
coming.

And yes, we are on for Qi Gong on the beach this Thursday.
