Qi Gong on the Beach Club, Recharging Qi Gong

Walk This Way, Madame

Every morning, I walk down to the beach to do my
Qi Gong practice. John wrote me today and was
concerned that the walking took away from his
training and thought it’s just a waste of time.

John, you are not wasting time at all. Walking is
one of the greatest stress-busters and can even be
a cure for cancer. There are many ways to walk and
use the energy to enhance your life. In an article
by Sara Altshul, she gives us some reasons or
extra benefits to take a stroll:

1. Tree Hugger’s walk – Researchers sent a group
of walkers into a forested area and another group
into a city for an hour. Afterwards, the forest
walkers had improved heart and lung function while
the city walkers didn’t. The message: Nature walks
can be healing.
2. Meditation Master’s walk – If sitting on a
pillow and chanting “om” aren’t your thing, you
can actually meditate while you walk. Numerous
studies confirm meditation’s ability to ease high
blood pressure, digestive challenges, anxiety,
depression and insomnia.
3. Memory-booster walk – Making walking a habit
can preserve your memory. Researchers following up
on three hundred older adults after thirteen years
found that those who had walked six to nine miles
a week lowered their risk of memory problems by
fifty percent.
4. Philosopher’s walk – Walking is great for deep
thoughts, but it provides other brain perks
(memory boost aside). Adults who walked for forty
minutes three times a week slowed down age-related
declines in brain function and improved their
performance on cognitive tasks.
5. Socializer’s walk – Taking walks with friends
is not just fun, it’s beneficial, too. One study
showed that people who joined walking groups had
lower blood pressure, reduced cholesterol, a lower
resting heart rate and more effective weight loss.

What most of us don’t know is that walking can be
a treatment for cancer. In the Medical Qi Gong
practices, there are three stepping methods used
to treat cancer. They are methods performed at
three different speeds depending what form the
cancer took. For example, fast walking for breast
cancer with a specific breathing pattern, moderate
walking for stomach and intestinal cancers, and
slow walking for both brain, kidney and urogenital
cancers. Of course, there are Qi Gong breathing
patterns that go along with the walking and hand
positions to enhance your treatments. These are
some of the exercises a patient can do to heal
their body, mind and spirit if they are going
through a bout with cancer.
