Does Rioting Really Help?
When I was in my early twenties, I lived in
Detroit. One hot summer Saturday night, the city
exploded with rage and fury. A race riot started
on 12th Street in the heart of the Black ghetto.
There were dozens of both black and white males
killed and millions of dollars in property damage
and loss of business. Truthfully, Detroit never
recovered from that explosive incident. Years
later, some things still seem unchanged or, some
instances appeared to be worse.
One would think that destroying property and
killing don’t work, and it never will. But if you
look at history, riots have been going on and on
for a long time. These are troubling times and
really good times. The Beatles sang the song,
Revolution, in 1968. This was the first political
song written by John Lennon while he was at a
meditation camp in India. It was in protest to the
Vietnam War. We all stood up and cheered, thinking
there was now going to be a big change in our
world for the good of humanity. Lots of good
things happened, and bad as well. I remember well
the words that song…
“We all want to change the world You tell me that
it’s evolution Well, you know But when you talk
about destruction Don’t you know that you can
count me out You say you got a real solution We’re
doing what we can But if you want money for people
with minds that hate All I can tell is brother you
have to wait Don’t you know it’s gonna be All
right, You say you’ll change the constitution
Well, you know We all want to change your head You
tell me it’s the institution Well, you know You
better free your mind instead. Don’t you know it’s
gonna be All right I am sure it will be alright
just like…”
We are at another turning point on planet Earth.
The Trump administration was protested all over
the world, and they are butting heads with many.
Some were peaceful, and others not so nice. I can
see the goodness peeking through the black clouds.
Millions of people all over the world are now
paying attention to world events and politics,
this is a good thing. The Revolution is here. Lies
are always exposed and facts are facts. There is
no such thing as an alternative to the facts. If
it’s not a fact, one would consider it a lie or
just bullshit.
What do we, as a world community, really want?
1. An education that prepares us for the real
world and gives all useful skills to work and make
a fair living.
2. The end of corruption and bad
governance, of apathy in every area of life, from
education to health to environmental protection.
3. A safe and secure life. The right to decide if
they want to love someone of a different color,
religion and sexual orientation. The right to get
an abortion, a nose job, or change your sex if you
so wish without a town, city, state or government
interfering with you.
4. To have a clean environment for all, no one should be allowed to
pollute your air, your water, or dump toxic
chemicals into the soil. A clean environment
ensures the continual existence and survival of
all life on Earth. We want less toxic emissions
and the end to pollution of water, land and air.
Pollutants adversely affect human health, causing
health conditions and diseases such as cholera,
heart disease, cancer, cystic fibrosis, and
respiratory tract and eye irritation.
If a government can guarantee this, the world
would be much better for all of us that lives in
it.
I work daily to try to end suffering of people,
and I have found that there are things that you
can do that will make your life better as well as
of others. 1. Learn how to meditate. 2. Grow a
garden, big or small, but grow something. 3.
Exercise daily. 4. Help others in some way daily
and get involved in your community. 5. Demand of
your government clean water, air and food.
