When Ordinary is Extraordinary

Today I got a break from the rain and worked in my garden. I love to work in my garden. I think it’s one of the things that keeps me feeling great every day.

The secret is not so much what’s growing in my garden as much as it is how I work my garden that gives me vitality and power.

The way I work my garden is the way I live my life, according to the principles of Qi Gong.

Qi Gong can be applied anywhere and everywhere and once you are a master of Qi Gong your everyday life is inseparable from the actual practice of Qi Gong.

Let me see if I can illustrate this by telling you about my Garden Qi Gong.

Now my garden is not like any other garden you will ever see anywhere in Miami or the rest of the United States for that matter.

My garden is small and practical, more like a household garden you would find in China.

Outside my kitchen door and down a few steps is my garden right there close to me.

The climate in Miami will let you grow anything but what I grow I eat and it doesn’t have to travel far to the kitchen.

I have a few wonderful tomato plants that gift me a bright red fruit every other day.

I have the darkest leafy greens you will ever see and Zucchini that will grow longer than my forearm if I let them.

I have a row of some of the spiciest chilies you will every find on the planet and wide variety of fresh herbs that are used for both flavor and healing.

Above all this grows a passion fruit vine twisting far up into a tree. I have to wait for those to fall but fall they do and what a treat they are when they do.

Past my garden is a large mango tree that gives small but delicious mangos almost year round it seems.

Behind my house, where I workout, there are about twenty banana trees that came up like weeds after I planted the first one.

All of it, with the exception of the mango tree, wouldn’t have come to be without me putting my Qi into it.

And the Qi that is returned to me from the earth is powerful medicine for both me and the friends I share this food with.

Consider this on an energetic level.

In the opening exercise of the Recharging Qi Gong (http://rechargingqigong.com) you really want to pull the energy up from the earth and down from the heavens.

  • When I visualize pulling energy up from the earth I see all the treasures of vitality and abundance coming to me like the valuable minerals and vitamins stored in my greens and vegetables that will keep my bones strong and my blood rich with oxygen.
  • When I pull down the energy of the heavens I see all the gifts of grace and wonder coming to me like those rare fruits that fall from the highest branches on breezy days.Likewise, when I am working in my garden I make consideration of my practice as a healer.

  • When I weed the garden I visualize pulling out the toxins and stale energy out of my patients and students.
  • When I compost waste into my garden I see all my unwanted tensions being ground up and returned to me as nourishment to make all my dreams and aspirations a reality.
  • When I plant something new in my garden I am also planting something in me. The desire to grow and become much more than what I already am.This is what it is to make the ordinary extraordinary.I have learned long ago that by dedicating your actions you bring power to them.

The same is true in Qi Gong.

When ever you practice the Recharging Qi Gong find a way to dedicate it and the benefits will double.
