Spring In The Hood
I am at the old hood for the week, seeing old
friends and family and enjoying late spring in
Michigan. It’s just beautiful here; this time of
the year, the temp is in the seventies, and the
flowers are in full bloom. I got up this morning
and took a walk over to the waterfalls to practice
my meditation and Qi Gong exercises, as I watched
the wild geese on the pond with their babies.
Spring is a beautiful season.
In Chinese medicine, we start to see some problems
with itchy eyes, and the emotion of anger is
activated by the Wood element. The organ involved
is the liver. This time of the year, I often do a
liver cleanse. You’ll need some organic olive oil
and a fresh organic lemon. If you are up to it,
you can also use a piece of fresh organic garlic.
Here’s how it is done:
• Cut the lemon in quarters and put in your
blender after removing the seeds.
• Next, add 2 tablespoons of the organic olive oil
and finally a piece of garlic. Blend well.
• Drink it down. At first, it may seem a little
strange and tastes a bit weird, but you’ll get
used to it in no time.
I would do the liver flush for three days in a
row. It is best to do it first thing in the
morning and follow up with a few cups of fenugreek
tea. I buy the loose fenugreek seeds, and boil
them for five minutes or so and, then, let them
simmer for another fifteen minutes. Strain and
drink. This combo is a great liver cleanse.
Remember, the emotion of the Wood element is
anger. On the positive side, the emotion is
kindness. The more you practice kindness, the
better you’ll feel, and you’ll turn on and inspire
others to follow suit.
