The Spring Wind Can Kill You

The Spring Wind Can Kill You

It’s been over a week and the wind hasn’t stopped
blowing. The average speed is around 18 miles per
hour with gusts of 20. You can’t walk on the beach
without getting stinging sand hitting your legs,
and it’s disturbing to the spirit as well.

In Chinese medicine, the wind covers a range of
health hazards that occur suddenly. Colds and flu
occur from an external pathogen entering the body.
The Liver Wind shows itself by pushing upwards, so
it affects the upper parts of the body, the lungs,
head, throat, and eyes. Wind causes movement, so
it is usually involved when there are symptoms of
twitching, spasms, shaking and the shivers. The
organ most often affected by external wind is the
lung and is related to an imbalance in the liver.

Think about what the wind does to trees. It
ruffles the leaves, pushes it to one side or
another, and even loosens the roots. The higher
the wind, the more the tension in the tree, and
the more the leaves fly. A similar thing happens
to our body, mind and spirit. The wind is
upsetting to our entire system; a wind disease,
like a cold, will even uproot our grounding.

General Symptoms of Wind diseases are:
• Fever
• Dizziness
• Restlessness
• Numbness
• Tics and itchiness of the eyes
• Seizures
• Neck rigidity
• Thirst
• Flushed face and red eyes
• Headaches
• Agitation
• Runny nose

Many years ago, when I was going to school in
Santa Cruz, California, one of my friends wore a
scarf around his neck whenever there was windy
weather. When I asked him why he had a scarf
around his neck, he told me that he was protecting
himself from getting sick. He explained that the
body can usually deal with cold or heat but, when
it comes to wind, it is harder to protect oneself.
The wind wipes around and steals one’s defense Qi.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine,
whenever the wind is sudden and extreme, it can
penetrate the body from the surface and “hide
under the skin.” The most common body locations
that the wind penetrates to are the shoulders, the
neck, and the back. Once the wind successfully
invades the body, the defensive energy, called Wei
Qi, gets obstructed that can cause health and
mental problems. Since the lung governs the
Defensive Qi, it also becomes obstructed. Coughs,
throat obstructions and runny noses are easy to
get overnight.

Different from Western Medicine, the natural
system of healthcare boosts the immune system and
opens the channels to kick the trapped wind out of
your body before it goes internal and cause worse
problems. And it does so without medicine. Big
Pharma hates this kind of medicine, it kills their
profits.

If you can keep your immune system strong, you
won’t get sick!

I wish you the best in your Health, Wealth and
Happiness.
