Balance

What are The Three things to watch out for this summer?

1.Everyone can get sunburn, and that can lead to
the possibility of skin cancer. More than 3.5
million skin cancers are discovered and treated
annually. Ultraviolet radiation can cause
premature aging, eye damage, and skin cancers. On
the other hand, the UVB is the main cause of
sunburn. Cover up and wear some protective cream.

I am in the sun everyday but to avoid the damage
of the sun rays, I am on the beach at sunrise and
home no later than 10:00 in the morning. If I want
to hit the beach later in the day I go out around
5 or 6 in the evening when the rays are at there
weakest and those are the best times to train. You
open the day when it’s quiet and cool and you
close the evening for more balance and internal
power. This is the true balance of Yin and Yang.

2.The second hazard is from the sea. In Florida
things like sea lice, jellyfish, fish, sea shells
or corals can be painful and puncture wounds from
crabs, lobsters, sea urchins, zebra mussels,
stingrays, flying fish can last for weeks if not
treated properly. I spend a considerable time in
the ocean. Some days I spend up to an hour or more
doing the “The Polynesian Salt Water Purification
Program” it’s a great way to detox your lymphatic
system!

When I walk in the ocean I always wear sea sandals
to protect my feet and check the lifeguard’s
reports to avoid sea lice, and Portuguese Man o’
War. If one of these stings you, they really hurt
and the best quick cure is to urinate on the
wound– that will stop the pain.

If you’re spending your summer around the swimming
pool, keep well hydrated and keep oiling your
skin. The chemicals in the pool are not only
toxic; they will cause skin dryness and
irritation. I learned the this system when I was
at camp many years ago and I still practice it
today when I swim.

3.Unknown Heat related diseases are:
Fungal infections, bacterial infections, viral
infections and parasitic infections. To avoid
these, hygiene is most important. Change clothing
and never leave sweat-soaked clothes on the skin
to dry. If you’re overweight, make double sure to
take a shower and dry off well. Drink plenty of
water and eat fruits and vegetables to boost the
immune system.

Sunstroke or any excess heat disorder will damage
both Qi and Yin causing extreme fatigue. If it’s
just mild you may experience a headache, thirst,
sweating, hot skin, dry tongue and mouth.

But if it’s severe you get all of those plus
sudden collapses, loss of consciousness and more.
That’s why it’s so important to stay well
hydrated. Acupuncture works extremely well for
heat related problems as well as herbs.

It’s important to protect the Yin and that’s why I
suggest to all of my students and patients to
learn the Yin set and practice it daily. The Yin
Set is an ancient Taoist system that rejuvenates
the entire body, mind, and spirit.
