The Healing Power

The Healing Power

I was at the beach early this morning, training
and taking in the morning sun. It’s the best for
your body, mind and spirit. Here are its benefits:

1. Reduces heart disease
A study in the British Medical Journal showed that
people in the UK are more likely to die of heart
disease in winter than in summer, which is
believed to be because of low levels of vitamin D
that supports our immune system. Did you know that
cholesterol levels rise in winter, according to
The Lancet, a trusted medical magazine? Go out in
the sun at least three times a week to boost
levels of vitamin D.

2. Relieves aches and pains
Being out in the sun helps to warm the body’s
muscles and to ease stiffness, reducing the pain
caused by inflammatory conditions such as
arthritis.

3. Boosts fertility
The sun reduces levels of the hormone, melatonin,
which suppresses fertility, so it is more likely
you’ll conceive in summer. Sunlight not only makes
you more fertile, it also increases the length of
your fertility. In addition, sunlight boosts
testosterone levels in men which makes summer the
perfect time for making love.

4. Increases Qi
Melatonin also regulates sleep, so having lower
levels of this hormone in your body gives you more
energy (Qi).

5. Helps skin conditions
Exposure to the sun can help to heal skin
conditions such as psoriasis, acne and eczema. But
make sure you never burn.

6. Boosts your immune system
Sunlight encourages the production of white blood
cells, which help to boost your immune system.

7. Helps to reduce weight
Higher levels of serotonin in our bodies not only
makes us feel happy, but it also suppresses the
appetite, thus you eat less in warmer weather.
Sunshine boosts levels of serotonin.

8. Cheers you up
When I lived in Michigan, it didn’t really matter
how cold it got. When the sun was out, most people
had a smile on their faces. In my twenties, I
moved my family to Colorado just because they have
three hundred days a year of sunshine. Now, I live
in Florida, and I take in the early morning rays
at least five days a week. Living in South Florida
gets me a good deal of sunlight daily, which helps
increase overall longevity. When combined with Qi
Gong Exercises, I stay healthy without medical
care.

If you are in the North where winter drastically
cuts your sun intake, you can get a light box and
increase your vitamin D. Light Therapy and Vitamin
D are a big help to keep you out of winter blues.
Many doctors recommend the use of daylight therapy
lamps as the first step in treating people
suffering from symptoms of the winter blues.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) occurs in many
people during autumn and winter as exposure to
natural daylight is decreased. When the human body
is deprived of too much natural sunlight, it can
go through a range of hormonal changes. For
example, we need a certain amount of vitamin D
from the sun in order to keep our bodies
functioning at optimal levels. Likewise, exposure
to sunlight also helps the brain to produce
serotonin, which is the body’s natural feel-good
hormone.

Get outside and exercise daily. If it’s cold,
bundle up and move your body. I have found that a
Qi Gong routine, clean diet, and sunlight will
keep you years younger in every way. Check out the
